Sections of the test
There are multiple sections to the test, here are the basics of it:
General Science (GS)
The General Science section is designed to measure your skills in science. You’ll need a general understanding of a variety of scientific areas, including biology, astronomy, anatomy, ecology, and geology.
Arithmetic Reasoning (AR)
Arithmetic reasoning refers to the process of solving math word problems. They’re similar to the one you had in middle school and high school.
Word Knowledge (WK)
The Word Knowledge test is a vocabulary test designed to rate your skills in vocabulary and sentence structure.
Paragraph Comprehension (PC)
The Paragraph Comprehension section clarifies how well you understand paragraphs of information — it’s a comprehension test.
Mathematics Knowledge (MK)
The Mathematics Knowledge section has algebraic questions and word problems to gauge the test-takers math aptitude.
Electronics Information (EI)
The Electronics Information section rates your ability to understand electronics, electrical components, and circuits.
Auto & Shop Information (AS)
The Auto & Shop Information section reveals your automobile systems aptitude. It rates your functions/malfunctions understanding and understanding of common shop tools.
Mechanical Comprehension (MC)
The Mechanical Comprehension section reveals a candidate’s ability to work with mechanical concepts.
Assembling Objects (AO)
The Assembling Objects section is designed to measure your skill in spatial ability, or the ability to comprehend and remember relationships among objects. You will be given shapes and you have to select the best options that show the best connection of those shapes.
Verbal Expression (VE)
The Verbal Expression scores are determined by the Paragraph Comprehension (PC) and Word Knowledge (WK) sections. Simply add the two sections together to reveal the score.
Coding Speed (CS) (Navy only)
The Coding Speed tests your ability to find am number quickly and accurately from a table of numbers. There’s a key and you’re required to find the proper number associated with it.
